If you are close enough to auto-detect a submarine by proximity, congratulations! You are pretty much safe and have now shared the sub’s location with your allies. If you get a chance to shoot at a submarine, take it! They are flimsy little things that go down fast! Even at extreme range, like when spotted by aircraft, threatening it can cause it to submerge and waste its batteries. This means that you can either blow them out of the water with your guns or run them down. While submarines can make decent speed on the surface, their speed is halved when they submerge to operational depth.

A submerged sub is either a retreating sub or a stupid sub – either one is better for you. As such, forcing them to submerge early is key to undermining their ability to stay submerged when they need to. Being at periscope depth uses up battery as well. Submarines can only stay submerged for a relatively short amount of time.

One of the most important mechanics is battery power. I think we can acknowledge that a campaign of writing strongly worded letters to Wargaming about how everyone hates submarines and nobody wants them in the game is likely an ineffective use of everyone’s time, so let’s talk about what to do when they are in game.
